What is GPR (RPG)? - Pulse Physiotherapy and Pilates

The GPR Global Posture Reeducation, known by its initials RPG (French: Rééducation Posturale Globale), is an innovative method of physiotherapy created and developed by Frenchman Philippe Emmanuel Souchard. , based on the work of Françoise Mézières after 15 years of research in the field of biomechanics. Souchard travels the world teaching his technique to thousands of physiotherapists, already creating organizations in 14 countries. The term postural reeducation has always been used in physiotherapy, but the use of the acronym RPG has emerged with its creator, as well as the originality and authenticity of the method.

RPG consists of adjustments in the posture to reorganize the segments of the human body, allowing the reorganization and rebalancing of the muscles that firm the posture. It identifies and lengthens the muscles considered responsible for the postural alteration.

RPG Differencials

One of the differentials of Souchard's method is related to treating the individual, not the disease. As each person reacts differently to a particular problem, the way of treatment must be personalized. Treatment with Souchard RPG can be used in most of the pathologies or disorders of the neuromusculoskeletal system, acute or chronic, with or without symptoms. It consists of practical exercises to avoid and relieve the various types of pain with movements that help to lengthen the muscles and contribute to give more shape to the body. A correct posture helps even in reducing that uncomfortable fat belly, because by correcting the posture, the belly decreases. There are varied postures ranging from sitting on the floor, lying down and even standing.

It can be indicated to individuals of all ages, both to prevent the possible consequences of poor posture, as in the case of young, elderly, children, and to combat pain caused by morphological, joint, traumatic, respiratory and sports problems. It acts against several pathologies that can be treated with physiotherapy such as: back, neck, neck, repetitive strain injuries (RSI), spinal deviation (scoliosis, kyphosis, lordosis), pain in the feet and hands, disc hernias, torticollis, and protect against degenerative joint processes . It can be applied in the treatment of respiratory diseases (asthma / bronchitis), somatic (stress, circulatory and digestive disorders), rheumatologic (arthritis, arthrosis, bursitis, tendinitis), ocular (strabismus), perineal problems (such as urinary incontinence).

RPG can also be applied to pregnant women, many obstetrician doctors already indicate with proper individual attention and adaptation to the reality of the pregnant woman. They range from preparation for childbirth to postpartum recovery.

THE CORE OF RPG

The RPG technique is original, but it is based on three principles already recognized:

  • Individuality: no one suffers in the same way, each person is unique and reacts differently, and no standard treatment for symptom or age is indicated.

  • Causality: where the true cause of the problem may be distant from its symptom, not just the place of pain.

  • Globality: treatment of the human body as a whole, being an active body work taking into account eight positions that put the whole body in narrowing so that they are verified which tensions are related.

The RPG must be applied by a physiotherapist with training in Souchard RPG, ie, who participated in the preparatory course given by Philippe Souchard. The treatment consists of consultations of 1 to 2 times a week in the clinic with about 1 hour or more of duration according to the need to be evaluated by the accompanying physiotherapist. As soon as the first evaluation can give an idea of the time to be dedicated and the duration of the treatment.
